Hamilton Police have arrested a 22-year-old man after a violent home invasion in Fairfield, Hamilton, on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
Two women suffered serious injuries after being attacked on a Hamilton property by an unknown man in a terrifying home invasion.
Detective Sergeant Mike Kaukau said the incident happened at a Fairfield address about 7.30 pm.
“Two women at the Paul Crescent address were attacked by an unknown man, who forced his way into the property. The victims received serious injuries and were taken to hospital where they are in stable condition.”
The man has been charged with burglary and two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He is due to appear in the Hamilton District Court today, December 4, 2023.
“The women are being provided with support and have been informed of the arrest,” Detective Sergeant Kaukau said.
“This was a terrifying event for the victims to endure. Everybody has the right to feel safe in their home. We understand this will also be concerning to the community, and while we do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public, police will be carrying out reassurance patrols in the area.”
As the case is before the court, police were unable to comment further.
Worried Residents
Fairfield residents have expressed concern over the incident as it is alarming for the community to witness such a horrifying incident take place in their neighbourhood.
A young mother of three children spoke to Indian Newslink exclusively and said, “It worries me to hear such news. I am a single parent, and there are times in the day when my children are home by themselves. I will now always be watching over my shoulder and be cautious as this could happen to anyone.”
The neighbours said they were praying for the victims and wished them a quick recovery. Many of them said they would want tough action to be taken against the perpetrator of the crime as it was unacceptable for anyone to go through the trauma of a stranger entering their home, hurting them and leaving them feeling so vulnerable.
