Members of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) had an opportunity to interact and socialise at a picnic organised at Cornwall Park (One Tree Hill) in Epsom, Auckland recently.
Among them were Presidents and office-bearers of a number of Chapters of the Organisation spread across the country.
GOPIO National President Alkesh Sharma said that despite an overcast weather, the response was encouraging and that the picnic helped people understand the objectives of the Organisation better.
“GOPIO has been established to not only help promote ties between the Indian Government and other governments around the world and foster people-to-people relationships, but also create a cohesive environment for peace and harmony among various ethnic groups.
“Events like the picnic that we held reinforce our priority in pooling our professional and financial resources for the benefit of People of Indian Origin, encompassing those coming from India and other parts of the world,” he said.
Mr Sharma said that among the highlights of the picnic was a ‘Creative Group Game,’ including cracking a ‘Creative Cake Puzzle.’
“The team led by Tilak Wadhwa was declared the winner, qualifying for a cake presented by Founder-President of GOPIO West Virender Agarwal. The event helped us to strengthen the bond between members of GOPIO,” he said.
