Free music concert in memory of Chinmoy

A music concert in homage to popular spiritual teacher Sri Chinmoy will be held in Central Auckland on Tuesday, October 16 at the Hopetoun Alpha (19 Beresford Square) from 730 pm.

Entry to the concert is free but those interested should obtain their tickets from the Blue Bird Cafe, 299 Dominion Road, Mt Eden, Auckland or by phone (09) 3091136. Reservations can also be made by visiting the concert website (www.festivaloftheheart.org/concert).

The Auckland event is the first of ‘The Music of the Heart Concert Tour,’ covering New Zealand and Australia. It would feature the newly commissioned works of Sri Chinmoy, who passed away in Jamaica, Queens (New York) on October 11, 2007.

“Hidden within the beautiful simplicity of his melodies lies a creative power to elevate and transport the listener into a peaceful, meditative consciousness.

“Each concert will feature seven international and local performers, combining in small ensembles to bring joyful, uplifting blend of Eastern, Western, Classical and Contemporary musical modes,” the organisers said.

“Ticket holders will be given priority seating up to 20 minutes before the commencement of the concert, after which entry will be open to everyone.”

According to Wikipedia, Chinmoy Kumar Ghose, known as Sri Chinmoy, was a Bengali and American spiritual teacher, poet, artist and athlete. He was the founder of the ‘Sri Chinmoy Centre Church, Inc.’

“His followers say that Sri Chinmoy wrote 1500 books, 115,000 poems and 20,000 songs. He also created 200,000 paintings and gave almost 800 free peace concerts in notable venues around the world.

“As a spiritual Master, he advocated meditation, chanting mantras and prayers, performing dedicated service to God as a way to personal enlightenment.”
