Former Party worker in jail

A former member of the United Future Party has been sentenced to undergo a prison term of two years on a number of proven charges.

Dr Yousuf Kureshi was sent to Mt Eden prison following his conviction of charges related to embezzlement and corruption.

He is reported to have collected money from two businesspersons of Pakistani origin, promising to obtain Permanent Residence in New Zealand.

He was doing time at an assessment unity at the Mt Eden prison, from where he was scheduled to be taken to Turangi prison in central North island, where he would work in a prison farm.

He is expected to be released early next year.
