Outgoing India’s High Commissioner Sanjiv Kohli recalled his pleasant days in New Zealand, saying that ‘there were challenges to be faced and decisions to be taken but it has been a good tenure in New Zealand.’
Speaking at a dinner organised in his honour by the Auckland-based New Zealand India Trade Alliance (NZITA) at India Gate Restaurant on Sunday, April 20, 2019), he said that transfers and change of scenes come in the wake of diplomacy.
Closer interaction
“When we are posted to a country, we get to know the host government, officials, communities, businesses and people. And there always comes a time when we have to move to another country, which we may not have even visited before. I must say that my wife and I enjoyed our stay in New Zealand. I have had opportunities to interact closely with businesses and our community. I will carry with me pleasant memories,” he said.
Mr Kohli has been posted as India’s High Commissioner to the United Republic of Tanzania based in its Capital Dar es Salaam. He said that he would leave New Zealand by the end of May and proceed on leave before taking up the next tour of duty.
Supporting NZITA
Earlier, Giri Gupta and Sunil Kaushal, respectively NZITA President and Secretary-General spoke of the diplomatic excellence of Mr Kohli and his support to the activities of their Association and its efforts to promote business and trade ties between New Zealand and India. They said that NZITA organises regular meetings on topics of relevance and importance to the business community with qualified speakers.
Later, they presented a memento to Mr Kohli.
About 30 people representing various sections of the communities attended the event.
