Dr Parmjeet Parmar is Director of Auckland based Kiwi Empire Confectionery Limited (KECL). From its modest beginning in 1935, the Company has grown from strength to strength, retaining cherished values of quality, taste, health, hygiene, staff welfare and most important of all, personalised customer service.
After acquiring the Company, Dr Parmar and her husband Ravinder merged it with their other manufacturing business and renamed it as ‘Kiwi Empire Confectionery.’
Stringent quality control and the ability to keep pace with the evolving market trends and customer preferences have helped the Company to expand and relocate its manufacturing and other facilities to modern premises in the salubrious suburb of Mt Wellington.
Following her postgraduate qualifications in Biological Sciences, Dr Parmar joined the academic staff at the University of Auckland where she completed her PhD. She later worked in another organisation before deciding to join her family Company.
Her innovative spirit and penchant for quality and diversity have helped KECL to develop a new range of naturally based confectionery accompanying the traditional lollies, sweets, chocolates and bars.
“We value customer sentiments and hence maintain the ‘Old English’ manufacturing recipes, even as we expand our range of products. KECL is seen as a preferred manufacturer for corporate specialty products and for other brands. While we are always keen on product development, we are mindful of the fact that our core business is high-boiled sweets that has been the favourite of New Zealanders for almost 80 years,” she said.
