Customers shopping at Food 4 Less in New Lynn can join in the ‘double celebration,’ with the large retail store marking its first anniversary, while its parent company in Otahuhu celebrates six years of its official opening this week.
It is often said that Progress is never pronounced with a pause because it is continuous, motivating companies and individuals to perform better.
Food 4 Less Supermarkets conform to the concept of achieving customer satisfaction through constant innovation, expansion and extension, both in the range of products and services offered and physical presence.
Following the success of its Otahuhu outlet opened in 2005, Managing Director Uma Chand and his two sons Nilesh Prakash and Romit Prakash believed that there was scope to open another branch to cater to the growing needs of the Indian and other communities elsewhere in the Auckland region.
A strategic move
They chose a running fruits and vegetables shop in New Lynn (13 Veronica Street), in the heart of the shopping district.
“It was a conscientious decision; we were keen to serve the residents of Waitakere and the neighbouring areas and found the facility in New Lynn suitable,” Romit said.
But the existing shop had to be completely refurbished, refurnished and prepared for a supermarket that had made a mark among the shoppers in the city. It took time, effort and of course money.
“We converted the property to suit the needs of Food 4 Less Supermarket customers. Although this outlet, occupying a floor space of 1500 sq m is not as large as our Otahuhu stores, effective utilisation of space will ensure customer convenience. Parking is available for more than 100 cars in our New Lynn shopping complex,” Romit said.
“Many people of European origin regularly shop at Food 4 Less Supermarket in New Lynn and they were also amazed at our specials.”
Mr Chand had promised five years ago that he would endeavour to add a range of home appliances and household items, as a part of the company’s efforts to provide as many products as possible under one roof.
Romit said that promise was honoured years ago.
“Both supermarkets stock and sell blenders, grinders and other products from India, and a variety of electrical items. We want people to have a pleasant shopping experience every time they visit our supermarkets,” he said.
Romit and Nilesh do not mind working late every day of the week, so long as they are able to meet the exacting demands of customers.
“Our New Lynn store is open every day of the week, from 7 am to 7 pm, with an extended hour (until 8 pm) on Thursdays and Fridays,” he said.
