Bucklands Beach Intermediate School won the top prize at the Desi Intermediate School competition held recently in Auckland.
The School earned $1000 cash prize sponsored by Shine Reality Otahuhu, with a waka and other dance styles.
Fifteen schools participated in the third annual competition sponsored by Tuckers Ice Cream, with ‘Fusion’ as the theme this year.
Mission Heights Junior College won the second prize ($500 sponsored by Amcal Pharmacy Otahuhu, displaying its skills in Kapa Haka and Bollywood styles.
Papatoetoe Intermediate School earned the third place ($250 sponsored by Food for Less) for its meke in fusion.
Following were the other winners of the contest:
Mount Roskill Intermediate School: Azhar Adam Award and the Best Male Dancer prize to Avneil Mohan.
Henderson Intermediate School: Winners of the 2001 Desi Intermediate Dance contest won the Best Costume Award. The School was judged for the Most Entertaining Performance Award.
North Cross Intermediate: Critics Award, Best Disciplined School and Best Female Dancer (Gieovanni).
Kevin of Avondale Intermediate School also received the Best Male Dancer Award for his dancing skills.
