Declining crime raises safety in Manukau

Declining crime raises- Kanwaljit Singh BakshiKanwaljit Singh Bakshi

Counties Manukau Police District annual crime statistics for 2014 show that our crime rate fell by 5.9% last year.

Nationally, the crime rate is down 4.2% per head of population.

This is the fifth successive year that crime rate has fallen, and means recorded crime has dropped by more than 100,000 offences compared to 2009.

In the Counties Manukau District, acts intended to cause injury fell 11.8% per head of population, public order offences fell 33.4% and illicit drug offences were down 12.7%

These results are great news for our communities here, and around New Zealand.

They reflect the hard work of our local Police, as well as National’s commitment to tackling crime.

National has worked hard to ensure that our frontline Police are able to spend more time on the streets preventing crime and building safer communities.

We will continue to do so.

Prevention Strategy

More Police, a prevention first approach, and Neighbourhood Policing Teams, along with additional frontline hours for officers created by the use of smartphones and tablets, are all contributing to our falling crime rate.

Delivering better public services for New Zealanders is one of National’s priorities, and we have been exceeding our targets to reduce crime and keep Kiwi families safer.
