Fund set up for repatriation of body and funeral

Tha Auckland Malayali Samajam has set up a Charity Fund on Givealittle website to pay for a number of expenses relating to the death of a young woman.
Samajam President Secretary Blessan Jose said in a communique that Teena Kunjappan drowned accidentally while walking along the beach in Nelson in the early hours of this morning.
“Teena Kunjappan was walking along the Tahunanui Beach in Nelson around midnight along with her husband Jilu C John. She accidentally drowned and Jilu managed to pull her out of the water, but she died before the arrival of the emergency services. Jilu was taken to Nelson Hospital in a moderate condition,” Mr Jose said.
Twenty-nine-year-old Teena was a native of Kundara, in Kollam (Quilon) in Kerala.

Mr Jose said that his Organisation is coordinating efforts with the Wellington-based High Commission to speed up the process of repatriating the body of the deceased to India.
“The Auckland Malayali Samajam has appealed for help from the wider communities across New Zealand for monetary donations to help us repatriate the body and conduct funeral services in Kerala. We have initiated a ‘Give-a-little Page’ to enable donations,” he said.
