An Auckland based Hindu organisation has invited traditional and folk dancers to participate in a Festival due to be held next month.
The Hindu Swayamsewak Sangh is keen to feature varied talent at its Raksha Bandhan 2012 programme, scheduled to be held at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre on New North Road in Mt Eden Terrace on August 11, 2012.
Association Secretary Srikant Bhave said that artistes adept in traditional, classical song and dance could apply for participation.
He said the Festival would attract more than 700 men, women and children.
“The Festival has in the past featured local performers representing various Indian States including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab and Tamil Nadu. We have also featured artistes performing music and dance from China, Japan and the Middle East,” he said.
Mr Bhave said that the Festival is aimed at celebrating womanhood and universal fellowship (although Raksha Bandan denotes brother-sister amity).
Those interested in participating as performers should contact Programme Coordinator Sundara Subbiah on 021-2050347 (Email: yessubbiah@gmail.com) on or before July 20, 2012, he said.
While the programme is open to all free of charge, reservation may ensure seats, he said, adding, “Please contact Neesha Mistry on 021- 2335395 or Shibani Bhave on 021- 1308173. Email rb@hota.org.nz.”
