Creativity and skill will come to the fore as a dance competition for children aged between six and 10 years goes on stage at the Green Bay High School Performing Arts Centre (143 Godley Road, Greenbay) at 4 pm on April 13, 2025.
Called, Boogie Woogie Lil Champs, the Programme is a serious project for Ramya Negi, Director of Little Kiwis Playhouse and Stutie Sharma (better known as Junoo), Founder-Director of AKS Digital Media, Events and Entertainment, who as organisers are keen to showcase the talent of the growing generation with passion and enthusiasm.
The Great Expectations
“A dazzling show awaits parents, teachers, elders and children at Boogie Woogie Lil’ Champs. This enthralling event provides an extraordinary platform for children to exhibit their dancing prowess. The Competition seeks to instil confidence, discipline and teamwork,” they said.
Ms Negi and Junoo share a passion for fostering young talent and as dancers, they have an innate desire to evince pre-teens’ interest to vent their dancing spirits.
“We see Boogie Woogie Lil’ Champs as a means to nurture young talent, foster creativity, and provide children and their mentors – whether seasoned or emerging – with a platform to express themselves through the art of dance. We believe this concept is unique to Auckland,” they said.
Ms Negi’s creative impulse, complimented by Junoo’s vivacity and an inimitable style of connecting with audiences would be a veritable combination, accruing a Lo and Behold experience.
Junoo said many aspiring stars from various parts of Auckland will share the stage with their supportive mentors, competing as teams to display their creativity and skill.
“The competing teams include Tanvi and Ishita, Alisha and Ayaan, Apoorva and Viyona, Dhanvi and Monika, Anusha and Divisha, Kanika and Swara, Pranvi and Aaria, Saawani and Avyra, Tisha and Aadhya. The Competition will feature performances across a range of dance genres – from the grace of Indian Classical to the high-energy vibrancy of Hip-Hop and the rich traditions of Folk Dances – all set to the rhythm of Bollywood music,” she said.
A veritable combination
As a dancer, Ms Negi promises that “each performance will be a dazzling blend of talent and dedication, honed through countless hours of practice and unwavering passion, and assessed by an esteemed panel of judges renowned for their expertise and insight.’
“While trophies await the top performers, this competition serves as a celebration of perseverance, creativity, and the sheer joy of dance. We invite family, friends and dance enthusiasts to support the young performers as they light up the stage with graceful movements, formidable techniques, and infectious enthusiasm,” she said.

Our Reporter writes:
Children are imbued with boundless creativity and potential, which, when nurtured, can blossom into remarkable talents. Encouraging them to participate in competitions is a vital step in this journey of growth, as it not only hones their skills but also instils confidence and resilience.
Competitions provide children with a unique platform to showcase their abilities, face challenges, and learn the value of determination and teamwork. They also serve as an avenue for creative expression, allowing children to explore their passions and discover their strengths.
Promoting young talents
Promoting children’s talents, however, is not merely about urging them to participate; it is also about cultivating an environment that values and respects their individuality. Parents and elders play a pivotal role in this endeavour. Their unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement are crucial in helping children navigate their aspirations. It is the responsibility of adults to recognise and appreciate a child’s unique qualities, fostering their growth without imposing undue pressure.
Parents should actively facilitate opportunities for children to explore diverse interests. This includes enrolling them in extracurricular activities, guiding them to set achievable goals, and celebrating their progress irrespective of the outcome. By instilling enthusiasm for participation rather than focusing solely on winning, they help children develop a growth mindset and learn invaluable life lessons.
Elders, too, contribute by sharing their wisdom and experiences, acting as mentors who inspire perseverance and dedication. Their role extends to being patient listeners, celebrating each achievement, and encouraging children to embrace challenges as stepping stones to success.
