Convention to address migrants’ problems

The annual Youth and Women’s Convention of the New Zealand Sanatan Naari Sabha (NZSNS) will be held in Auckland on September 8, 2013.

The one-day event, commencing at 830 am at 43, Holmes Road, Manurewa, will feature keynote speakers and Members of Parliament including Louisa Wall, Dr Rajen Prasad (Labour) and Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi (National).

The Convention aims to promote and preserve Indian culture and create awareness on social and health issues faced by the migrant families.

Strong community engagement is a key factor of the Convention.

Useful workshops

NZSNS plans to conduct educational workshops and present cultural programmes organised and produced by younger members of the society.

Workshop topics include bullying in schools, family violence, awareness of teal ribbon, elder abuse, child welfare, and healthy eating.

Auckland’s social issues are many and complex, and if ignored, would get worse.

There is no better time to reflect on effective ways to deal with social problems than during workshop sessions.

We have worked with a number of not-for-profit and volunteer organisations to safeguard Indian culture and heritage, which is rich and great.

We invite you and your family to participate in the Convention, assess the problems faced by the migrant families and seek effective solutions.

Mavis Singh is the President of the New Zealand Sanatan Naari Sabha, a non-profit organisation, established to promote and preserve Indian culture and heritage, creating awareness of culture-based social issues faced by the migrant community.
