Devaky Sankaran Kutty (mother of Aiswarya Entertainments Limited Director and former Auckland Malayali Samajam President Sasi Nambissan) passed away at the Baby Memorial Hospital in Calicut (Kerala) on June 13, 2012 after a brief illness. Her funeral was held on the following day.
She was 75 years old and is survived by her husband Trissur Sankaran Kutty (an advocate by profession and a Mridhangam artiste), Mr Nambissan, daughters Shobha Madhavan, Asha Shivadas, Usha Muraleedharan and Vasantha Sasikumar and eight grandchildren.
“During their visits to New Zealand, my parents were amazed by the cultural plurality of the country and were very keen to promote Indian culture and heritage here. It was my mother’s encouragement that motivated my wife and me (Dr Rita Sasidharan) to present ‘Taj Mahal: A Dance Drama’ at the ASB Theatre in Auckland City on March 31, 2012. This programme was the starting point for transfusing our culture to New Zealanders in general and our youngsters in particular,” Mr Nambissan said.
