What are the measures being implemented to facilitate the issue of work visas in the sectors facing severe staff shortages? Will the government waive the minimum median wage so that businesses that are suffering can recover?
Many medical professionals are moving to other countries such as Australia and Canada where they have ease of movement for their families. Why has New Zealand not facilitated the same for its valued professionals? How else can we bridge the widening gap between demand and supply?
Indians Living in Auckland Group
These are some of the issues that are likely to be answered by Immigration Minister Michael Wood when he appears on the ‘Indians Living in Auckland’ Facebook Group tomorrow, Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 3 pm.
The one-hour meeting is a part of the monthly discussion group organised by ‘Indians Living in Auckland’ on Facebook in association with Indian Newslink.
Members of the Group and readers of this publication have sent questions on many other issues which will be raised with Mr Wood during the discussion hour.
These include whether the government is considering fresh announcements or initiatives before Christmas to facilitate the arrival of visitors and members of families of New Zealand residents, the status relating to migrant workers stranded in India for more than two years and the measures to address the skills shortage.
Fast-tracking the applications of people working in the hospitality industry, IT professionals, medical staff and pharmacies and clarifications regarding the re-opening of the parents and grandparents category are also likely to be raised during the discussion.
Mr Wood is also likely to discuss the policy relating to international students.
