Cell phones get the better of plastic cards

Staff Reporter –

More than 90,000 ANZ ‘goMoney’ customers can now make everyday purchases with their mobile phone following the launch of ANZ’s ‘goMoney Wallet’ on December 7, 2015.

The wallet will enable customers to make contactless payments with just one tap of their Android smart phones.

ANZ Managing Director (Retail & Business Banking) Fred Ohlsson said that technology has transformed banking enabling customers to conduct their banking transactions round-the-clock from anywhere in the world.

Changing lives

“This transformation is now changing how people pay for goods and services. Mobile wallets are the next evolution in payments, and will enable customers to make purchases with just a tap of their mobile phone. Ultimately, this could mean the end of physical wallets of cards and cash. ANZ is leading the move to mobile payments with the launch of ‘goMoney Wallet,’ the first mobile payment app built by a bank in New Zealand, and the first Host Card Emulation mobile payment solution in New Zealand,” he said.

The Banks’ Head of Digital Channels & Transformation Liz Maguire said that ‘goMoney Wallet’ will support ANZ Visa Debit and ANZ personal Visa credit cards.

“Customers look to banks less for transactions, and more for the tools to manage their money when and where they want. A mobile wallet was the No 1 request from ANZ ‘goMoney’ customers when they were surveyed earlier this year,” she said.

Key benefit

The key benefit of the ‘goMoney Wallet’ is that it is within ANZ’s trusted mobile banking app, ANZ ‘goMoney,’ removing the need for a separate app or SIM card upgrade. Payments can be made in the same way as customers use a contactless card with a PIN only required for transactions over $80.

Using Host Card Emulation (HCE) technology, ANZ ‘goMoney Wallet’ will feature the most advanced encryption technology to protect customers’ financial information.

About ANZ ‘goMoney’ Wallet

This will enable customers to make contactless payments at participating merchants using their compatible Android smart phones and an ANZ Visa Debit or personal Visa credit card. It is a part of the ANZ ‘goMoney’ app with the same proven security features such as high-grade encryption and sophisticated fraud monitoring systems.

No personal, account or card information is saved on the phone or sim card.

Leading technology

It uses leading edge technology which meets international standards for mobile payment security, including Near Field Communications (NFC) to transmit encrypted card details sent from your phone to the contactless terminal.

It uses the same reliable, secure payment network as contactless chip card transactions.

It meets Visa’s stringent security certification requirements.

Customers will also have the benefit of our zero liability protection against fraudulent debit and credit card transactions in circumstances where they have not contributed to the loss.

The ‘goMoney Wallet Card’ works the same way as making contactless card transactions with a plastic card, except that the phone will be used to make the payment instead of a plastic card. Transactions will be available at retailers with contactless-enabled terminals.
