Celebration of Indian beauty in Wellington

It was a celebration of Indian beauty, grace, charm, dignity and charity at the Miss India Wellington Pageant over the weekend.

It was a birthday gift for Madhumitha Ramasubramanian (she turned 21 just a couple of days earlier) as she won the Crown to a wide applause. As Miss Wellington 2011, she will automatically enter the Miss Indianz 2012 nationwide competition to be held on or about February 18, 2012 in Auckland.

Minra Jinnah, a Sri Lankan born Indian and Tawa College Sixth Form Student Vanisha Kumar were declared respectively the First and Second Runners-Up.

A number of participants won in individual categories

Auckland based Reshabh D Parikh Productions produced and presented the pageant at the Wellington High School on September 10, at which more than 500 people were present.

The Company’s Director Dharmesh Parikh said it was an evening to celebrate Kiwi Indian beauty, fashion, dance and music.

“The wow factor was manifest not only in the contestants but in the entertainment value that the Pageant provided to a cross-section of the population in Wellington. We believe that the event helped to promote cultural diversity,” he said.

The panel of judges included former Miss Indianz Runner-Up Surinder Kaur, international model and actress Luna Rioumina, One News Reporter Arun Govind, radio programme presenter Shashi Jokhan and Labour MP Charles Chauvel.

“The winner and runners-up were decided by majority,” Mr Parikh said and added that as promised, he had forwarded a cheque for $600 (being 10% of the sales proceeds of the show) to the Christchurch Earthquake Relief Fund.

Miss India Wellington 2010 Jacinta Lal crowned Madhumitha.

The programme included a fashion show, live instrumental music and multicultural dance and music.
