We are happy to announce that the Fifth Annual Indian Newslink Sir Anand Satyanand Lecture will celebrate the success of women as leaders in various capacities.
‘The Role of Women in Governance’ will be the central theme of this year’s Lecture scheduled to be held on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Pullman Hotel, Auckland.
The formal, Black Tie event will commence with cocktails and networking between 630 pm and 730 pm, followed by dinner and the Lecture.

Jan Dawson, Chairperson of Westpac Bank and Deputy Chairperson of Air New Zealand will be the Guest Speaker.
Dr Susan Macken, Member of The Treasury and Director, BNZ will be the Master of Ceremonies.
Ranjna Patel, Director, East Tamaki Health Care Group and Director, Bank of Baroda New Zealand will provide ‘Reflections’ of the Lecture.
Since its inception in 2011, the annual Lecture series has dealt with various aspects of good governance, including honesty, integrity, transparency and accountability. These have been the governing principles of former Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand, in whose name the Lecture is held.
Honouring Sir Anand
John Allen, who was then Chief Executive and Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade was the Guest Speaker at the Inaugural Lecture held on July 4, 2011.
“We have been extraordinarily lucky to have had a New Zealander of Indian ethnicity as the Governor General, because it recognises the contribution made in the past and present and the contribution that would be made in the future by the Indian community in this country. It recognises the extraordinary contribution made by people from all over the world to the diversity and dynamism of this country,” he said.
In choosing this year’s subject, Indian Newslink celebrates the success of women in various roles of governance in both government and private sector.
The theme of the Lecture also reflects the international recognition that our women have continued to enjoy over the years.
Global score
An Economist ‘Glass-Ceiling Index,’ compiled in 2013, ranked New Zealand the highest on the status of women among 26 OECD countries.
“The Index compares five indicators: the number of men and women respectively with tertiary education; female labour-force participation; the male-female wage gap; the proportion of women in senior jobs; and net child-care costs relative to the average wage. The first four are given equal weighting, the fifth a lower one, since not all working women have children. New Zealand scores high on all the indicators,” it said.
Celebrity Women
The experience of Ms Dawson has encompassed a wide range of services including audit, accounting, due diligence risk and governance advice and litigation support.
She has particular expertise in working with financial institutions, Registered Banks and companies in the infrastructure network, software/IP distribution and forestry.
Ms Dawson is a Member of the Capital Investment Committee of the National Health Board, the Council of the University of Auckland, the Disciplinary Tribunal – NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants, and Voyager Maritime Museum.
Dr Macken has extensive experience in senior management roles within the Fletcher Group of Companies, the New Zealand Kiwifruit Marketing Board and as Chief Executive of the Auckland Regional Economic Development Strategy.
Ms Patel has several other professional interests including Total Healthcare Otara (Executive Trustee), New Zealand Asian Leaders Group and Lottery Auckland Community Distribution Committee (Member).
