The Bollywood bug is stated to be tenacious, pugnacious and even contagious, with thousands of young men and women of Indian origin landing in Mumbai, the Bollywood Capital of India.
These aspirants look for breaks as actors, singers, cinematographers, directors and producers; a few make it to the department of their choice, while the others become obscure and get lost in wilderness.
Now the bug is spreading its tentacles, reaching out to such places as Brazil.
Imagine three Brazilian actresses arriving in Mumbai, looking for an opportunity in the Tinsel Town. Full of hope and fantasy, they soon realise the harsh realities.
Their attitude and dreams change as they feel the cultural shock in the first instance and the differing social and moral values on the other.
This is the theme of Bollywood Dreams, which will be shown during the Reel Brazil Film Festival of New Zealand later this month.
In Auckland, the film will run at the Rialto Cinema in Newmarket on August 28 at 5 pm, at the Paramount Theatre in Wellington on September 11 at 5 pm and at the Reading Cinemas in Queenstown on September 25 at 5 pm.
Ram Prasad Devineni, who has produced the film with Beatriz Seigne (Director & Scriptwriter), says the film discerns the difference between the East and the West.
“The three aspirants are in the heart of Indian Culture and Mythology and understand the contrast between ancient and contemporary values and individual and collective yearning,” he said.
Devineni produced Vegas: Based on a True Story for Amir Naderi, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2008.
Among his other productions were Sound Barrier, Bollyworld and Ginsberg’s Karma and winner of several industry awards.
The cast includes Bhavana Rhya, Geethaa Satish, Kaushik Satish, Lorena Lobato, Paraneshwa Naiar and Paula Braun.
Bollywood Dreams has been produced by Ram Prasad Devineni and Beatriz Seigner.
