The Black Ferns Sevens made debut history at the FMG Stadium in Hamilton yesterday (Sunday, January 27, 2019) when they defeated France in the final.
They defeated France 24-5 to confirm New Zealand’s place in the Final, which was a curtain-raiser for the Men’s Final.
A repeat of last year’s World Cup Final, the French defeated England to book a place against the Kiwis.

Healthy Lead
Stand-in Captain, Stacey Waaka’s first-half hat-trick gave the Silver Ferns a healthy lead but Anne-Cecile Ciofani’s try after half-time seemed like a resurgence.
Michaela Blyde had the final say to wrap up New Zealand’s victory.
In August 2018, New Zealand Rugby announced that the Black Ferns Sevens would play France, England and China Women’s Fast Four.
Each team played four matches a week before Round Three of the Sydney Women’s Sevens in Sydney on February 1, 2019.
Although the Black Ferns Sevens have previously played exhibition matches in New Zealand, the 2019 HSBC New Zealand Sevens is the first for them in an international tournament on home-ground.
