“Bindu Grover is not just a beauty therapist but also an excellent cook,” is the comment that our readers will proffer as they watch this week’s episode of the Home Chefs Series hosted by Bharati Sonu on SevenzTV.
Punjabi dishes are known for their delicious taste and their popularity is evidenced by the increasing number of diners at restaurants which serve them throughout New Zealand.
Bindu chose Punjabi Chole Masala to delight thousands of SevenzTV watchers not only for its exquisite taste but also for its healthy ingredients.
“Also known as Chana Masala, this delicacy contains protein, fibre and minerals that are essential to the human body. This is a typical Punjabi Street Food, which is now widely available in many restaurants worldwide. Although called a ‘Side Dish,’ it can be a wholesome food consumed with Bhatura, Naan, Puri, Roti, Chapati, Rice or even bread,” she said.
A great Punjabi delicacy
Bindu’s husband Vinay, who lent a helping hand (as he does in her beauty business in addition to his professional qualifications in the IT industry and his entrepreneurial venture as a Mortgage Broker) said that when cooked according to tradition, Chole Masala is a great treat.
“It is a speciality in every home and we are grateful to SevenzTV for the opportunity,” he said.
Bindu pursues excellence in her beauty business and has won twice at the Indian Newslink Business Awards: Her Ehsaas Beauty Care and Fashions Limited earned the Best Employer of Choice in 2019 and Bindu’s Brows + Beauty won the Business Excellence in Retail Trade Award at the Awards Presentation Ceremony held on November 29, 2022.
Among her inimitable attributes is her passion for perfection and customer care – qualities that she brought to her culinary art of preparing Chole Masala.
“This is essentially a vegetarian dish. It is made with white chickpeas, onion, tomatoes, freshly powdered spices and herbs. In its purest and therefore the best form, Punjabi Chole Masala does not contain cream, nuts or any other additions. In my experience, if prepared well with the right ingredients and served hot, it becomes the most favoured food. Vinay and the children enjoy this item and always ask for more,” she said.
That was also the experience of Bharati.
“As well as enjoying the Punjabi Chole Masala, I had the pleasure of experiencing the hospitality of Bindu and Vinay. They make a great couple. Being Punjabis, making this dish and entertaining guests well came to them naturally. The episode was fun. It was a real feast watching them sing and romance while cooking,” she said.
