Commercial banks have since long supported sporting activities including sponsorship of matches and events and appointment of achievers in its complement of officers and staff.
Bank of Baroda, the largest public sector bank (after the State of Bank of India group), is an institution that believes in patronising sportspersons.
The tradition continues with Bank of Baroda (New Zealand) Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of the parent bank, Bank of Baroda, India.
Managing Director Navin Upreti said the Indian community in New Zealand has produced a number of achievers in several forms of sports and that Bank of Baroda would consider supporting activities that promote talent.
“We hope that initiatives such as the Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards will encourage an increasing number of young people to take up sports as a part of their activities. We have immense talent, which deserves encouragement,” he said.
Good initiative
Mr Upreti said that his Bank will always support initiatives and efforts that are aimed at catering to the welfare of New Zealanders in general and members of the communities that the Bank serves in particular.
“Bank of Baroda has always believed that good sports lead to good health, which in turn leads to good human development,” he said.
Mr Upreti said that Bank of Baroda was proud to serve an increasing number of clients in New Zealand since its official opening about three years ago.
Popular remittance
“We offer all banking facilities from our three branches and our remittance facility is increasing in popularity. Called, ‘Barodarapidfunds2India,’ this has become the flagship of the Bank since we began operations in New Zealand,” he said.
According to Mr Upreti, the remittance facility allows hassle-free transfer of funds to any Branch of Bank of Baroda in India instantly. Similarly, the fund transfer also takes place to the branches of any other bank within hours, he said.
He said that in consonance with its corporate policy, the Bank was concerting efforts to provide services at minimum cost, without compromising either quality or statutory requirements.
“Our Savings Bank and Home Loan accounts are also gaining popularity in view of their low or competitive cost. Our free SMS alert facility for any credit or debit in the account is an added security feature and allows account holders to keep track of their account with ease and comfort,” he said.
