South Island witnessed one of the largest doubles Badminton tournament over the Queen’s birthday weekend.
Featuring 96 players, the Tournament had 48 teams played over six Divisions, accounting for 112 matches and 245 games conducted on June 4, 2022.
This long weekend featured professional and social players from various ethnic communities, providing equal opportunity for all participants to excel.
This in turn helped to grow badminton as a mainstream sport in New Zealand.
Jasper Wang and Jason Zhang won the players of the tournament award.

Division 6: Gold – Benit Koshi & Joffre Abraham; Silver – Sandip Gadhavi & Bhavin Chauhan; Bronze – Vatsal Talati & Thirupathy Vairavan
Winners at the Tournament received their Awards from sponsors, Vivek Srivatsava, Senior Sales Consultant-Generation homes Christchurch; Dhairyadip Mahida, Director, Details King New Zealand, and Dhaval Lamghare, Harcourts Vision Residential Sales Consultant.
Rajeswar Peddisetti is Organiser and President, Telugu Badminton Club of Canterbury.
