The Avondale Club lifted the Eid Cup at the final match of the Muslim Soccer Tournament held at Centre Park, Mangere East on December 2.
The Tauranga Team was the Runner-Up.
Sixteen teams participated in the pool matches on knockout basis that began on November 29.
Tauranga Muslim Sports Club President & Manager Abdul Bobby said that he was pleased with his team reaching the final for the first time in the Eid Cup Tournament.
“I am grateful to the three Fiji-based players who joined the team to boost its strength and morale,” he said.
He was however critical of the venue and the quality of referees.
“The referees employed in the Tournament were not up to the expected standard. In fact, they were very poor. We should also get better grounds,” he said.
Eid Cup 2012 Tournament Chairman and New Zealand Muslim Soccer Association Vice-President Izaz Hussain said that he and his Association would address the inadequacies while organising the event next year.
