An evening of colourful dances is in store for the members and guests of the Auckland Malayali Samajam later this month.
President Maneesh Joseph said that the programme, called, ‘International Dance Festival’ will be held on Saturday, March 28 at Maleola Community Centre in the South Auckland suburb of Mangere.
“The Festival will witness 20 different dance forms celebrating our cultural diversity and community harmony. This will also conclude the 15th Anniversary celebrations that commenced last year. The Auckland Malayali Samajam, since its inception in 1999, has been serving our growing community,” he said.
Special Fund
Proceeds of the Programme will go to ‘Bereavement Fund’ established by the Samajam.
Mr Joseph said that among the objectives of the forthcoming programme is to bridge the gap between cultures and promote peace, stability and development.
“Cultural diversity is a driving force of development, not only with respect to economic growth, but also as a means of leading a more fulfilling intellectual, emotional, moral and spiritual life. Cultural diversity is an asset that is indispensable for the achievement of sustainable development. We would like to see the acceptance and recognition of cultural diversity in particular through dance forms and entertainment,” he said.
