When Ansuya Naidoo was appointed to the newly created post of head of Indian community banking last year, she was excited at the opportunity of working closely with a fast-growing community in New Zealand.
“BNZ has a proud record of catering to the individual and business needs of its customers and establishing a dedicated service to promote the interests of the Indian business community,” she said.
Born, raised and educated in South Africa, she brought to BNZ rich experience and expertise gained at Barclays Bank and First National Bank.
Ansuya began her career in the 1980s at a time when apartheid prevented Indian and African employees from participating on an equal footing with their white counterparts. This beginning instilled Ansuya with a determination to succeed despite external forces, a character trait that she has kept with her throughout her career. It also made her determined to encourage organisational culture that embraces and encourages diversity, both within the workplace and among the wider community. Ansuya is a key supporter of BNZ’s diversity initiatives, which resulted in BNZ being one of five organisations in the world to be awarded the inaugural United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles award in 2013.
“Indian Community Banking at BNZ is an innovative initiative that will take the bank closer to people. I am grateful to my superiors and colleagues who have always been supportive of my efforts in delivery of high quality products and services. We have a great team committed to helping businesses grow and individual to prosper,” Ansuya said.
