The on-going holiday season has been busy and productive for the younger members of the community, thanks to an Auckland based welfare organisation.
Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust has organised its Annual Summer Camp for children and youth between six and 16 years of age at Mt Roskill War Memorial Hall (13 May Road, Mt Roskill).
The Camp, which began on January 13, will conclude on January 17, 2014.
Trust Chairman Jeet Suchdev said that the annual event aims to translate cultural values into daily activities for children and promote their emotional development and enrichment.
“We focus on imparting skills like personality development, leadership, community involvement and tolerance, understanding of multiple cultures and ethnicities of our youngsters,” he said.
He had appealed to parents to donate $75 per child to attend the Camp. The cost would include vegetarian breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks.
Energising Days
“Among the activities included in the Camp are workshops related to arts, crafts, drama, yoga, life enrichment skills and developmental games. The Camp will be held from 8 am to 5 pm,” Mr Suchdev said.
An Outing Day will form a part of the Camp.
According to Mr Suchdev, the Outing Day will commence with rhythmic exercise and power Yoga followed by a nutritious breakfast and a schedule of workshops, activities and games.
“Volunteer teachers, trainers and coaches will visit the Camp every day and conduct various activities,” he said.
