An economy class ticket (one-way) on the special flights to India from Auckland will cost $2478, the Wellington-based Indian High Commission has announced.
Business Class seats are also available at $5416 per person. First Class tickets will cost $7700.
Tickets must be purchased within the timeframe specified, failing which the passenger will risk forfeiture of the opportunity.
All fares are in New Zealand dollars and are non-refundable.
The first flight under the ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ will leave Auckland for Delhi on June 7, 2020.
Economy class Passengers may be able to upgrade their tickets in various classes at the Auckland International Airport at an additional cost of $972, subject to availability.
The special flights are being operated by Air India and it is understood that tickets are being issued by the airline’s offices in Australia, since it does not have a presence in New Zealand.
Baggage Allowance
According to the notification, baggage allowance per passengers is 30 kgs in Economy and 40 kgs in Business and First Class.
Although the High Commission had recommended that up to 230 passengers be taken on board each flight, the final count now will be no more than 156 in all the three classes.
The distribution of seats would be 130 passengers in Economy, 20 in Business Class and six in First Class, in accordance with a Bombay High Court order.
“The High Commission of India will endeavour to accommodate remaining passengers in subsequent ‘Vande Bharat’ Flights subject to availability of seats. Air India has today sent emails to the selected passengers to purchase tickets by 1200 hours tomorrow (Thursday, June 4, 2020). If any seats remain vacant at 1200 hrs tomorrow, the same will be offered to those next in priority,” the notification said.
