When Ahranni Sivakumar goes on stage on July 3 to present a series of dances in Bharata Natyam style, it would be of evening of pride, gratification and satisfaction to her parents Dr Siva and Suchi Sivakumar, her Guru Kalaichelvi (Selvi) Uthayakumaran and a large circle of friends, peers and relatives.
The 12-year-old Summerville Intermediate School student has been a keen dancer since she was five years of age.
“Ahranni learnt this art from with abiding interest and sincerity. She has acquired graceful body movement, with perfect sense of rhythm and expression. It has been a pleasure teaching her Bharata Natyam,” Selvi said.
The young girl has also been trained by Adayar Lakshman, considered one of the finest teachers of Bharata Natyam in India. He will be in New Zealand to conduct eight workshops on this dance form in Auckland from July 5 to August 5 (see Indian Newslink, June 1, 2010 for details).
The Arangetram, due to be held at the Dorothy Winstone Centre, Auckland Girls Grammar School from 530 pm, will include Panchamurthi Anjali (Obesience to five Gods, namely Vinayaka, Muruga, Nataraja, Vishnu and Rama), Vinayakar Sthuthi (a tribute to the Remover of All Obstacles), Jathiswaram, Kauthuvam and Thillana.
The accompanying artistes are Gomathi Nayagam Ratnam (Vocal), Nagai Subramanian Narayanan (Mridangam), Ramesh Baswa Nagarajan (Flute), Shozhapuram Shankar (Violin), Krishnan Somasundaram (Gatam) and Selvi (Natuuvangam).
