Music, dance, drama, raffles, refreshments and a host of other activities will be held as a part of Diwali Festival at Mt Roskill Grammar School Auckland on November 1.
Organised by Puketapapa Local Board Member Ella Kumar, entry to the event is $30 for a family and $10 per person.
“This would be the first Diwali Festival organised by Mt Roskill Grammar School and our efforts are to raise sufficient funds for a new Water Base Hockey Turf at the School. The programme will be held from 730 pm to 9 pm and tickets can be purchased from the main office of the School,” Ms Kumar said.
Tickets are available at the MRGS school main office. For further details, please call Ella Kumar on (09) 6290660 or 021 0477642.
On a related note, Ms Kumar has advised people to follow a proper physical fitness programme to remain healthy and happy.
“Diwali is a time when people exchange sweets and consume food with families and friends. It is therefore important to follow a simple schedule which would help them to remain physically fit,” she said.
Among her recommendations are (a) Be physically active 30 minutes every day (b) Reach the activity to a ‘huff and puff level,’ so that you work out of your comfort zone, helping your heart to become stronger and (c) Eat in smaller portions. If you eat rich foods which contain oil, ghee and sugar, you must do additional exercise and eat less the following day.
“Those who set small goals to start any form of physical activity every day will do well. We should allot time for exercise just as we do for eating,” Ms Kumar said.
