We are sorry to report the sudden death of Divya Manoj 11.05 am today (Sunday, January 30, 2022) at the Waikato Hospital in Hamilton.
The cause of her death is not yet known but it is understood to be cardiac arrest.
Divya was 31 years old and left behind her husband Manoj Jose and their two small children- son Johan Joseph (3) and Katherine Ann (2).
She is reported to have arrived in New Zealand only last year in January and her husband followed her about three months ago.
Divya is a qualified nurse and was employed at Tamahere Eventide Home and Village, a Rest Home for the Elderly. She had earlier worked at Fortis Health Care in Hamilton and at a few medical centres in India. She hails from Ramamangalam, Piravam, while Manoj is from Adimali, both in the South Indian State of Kerala.
Auckland Malayali Samajam President Soby Bernard Thomas and Hamilton Kerala Samajam President Rajesh Raveendran told Indian Newslink that Manoj is under shock and that he comes from a modest economic background.
The Hamilton Kerala Samajam is offering support to the grieving family and has set up an appeal at https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/help-divyas-family-in-their-loss
“We would like to help Divya’s family cover some of the costs associated with this extremely sad time. Travel costs are very high in these Covid-19 times and we hope to make this difficult time more bearable for Divya’s family. The money collected will be used for Divya’s funeral and travel expenses in India,” they said.
Indian Newslink is also in contact with the Indian High Commission in Wellington to seek their support and assistance.
We will publish further information in due course.
