The International Women’s Council of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) will conduct its global conference for women in Sydney later this year.
The meeting, expected to be attended by a large number of GOPIO members and their guests, will be held on November 9 at the Sapphire Function Centre in Blacktown, a suburb in Sydney.
The conference will be held along with the GOPIO International Biennial Convention, followed by the Regional Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) from November 10 to 12 at the same venue.
Brisbane resident and GOPIO International Coordinator (Oceania) Umesh Chandra and GOPIO Sydney President Lucky Singh are respectively the Convenor and Secretary of the Convention. Their team comprises GOPIO By-Laws, Policies and Procedure Committee Chairperson Harry Walia and Logistics Administration Committee Chairperson Mahavir Arya as Members.
GOPIO International Women’s Council Chairperson Suman Kapoor said that the Women’s Conference will be held from 2 pm to 6 pm.
Indian Overseas Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said that the Regional PBD provided a platform for the Indian community in Australia and the Pacific to contribute to the relationship between the countries of the region and India.
“The purpose of the event is to reach out to the members of the community who are unable to participate in the annual PBD held in India from January 7 to 9. I hope that the regional PBD in Sydney will attract People of Indian Origin not only from Australia, New Zealand and Fiji but also from South East and South Asia,” he said.
