Born and raised in Lautoka in Fiji, she was just four years old when her family migrated to New Zealand – a move that has proved to be propitious and fortunate.
Yovonn is extremely proud of her family comprising her parents and elder sister, who have been her source of strength and inspiration.
“They have motivated and steered my life with positive thoughts and human qualities of compassion, love and understanding. They have not only taught me good manners and etiquette but also the will to strive towards achievements of objectives. As the youngest in the family, I have had the privilege of being pampered,” she said.
As she awaits her graduation in Advanced Business and Computing, Yovonn is weighing a number of options to launch her career, which may include such diverse fields as Early Childhood Education, Hospitality, Politics and Law.
“I do not hesitate to try new avenues of occupation or career, because I have the determination to succeed. However, my ultimate goal is to look after my parents and share with them progress and prosperity,” she said.
While her family and friends persuaded her to pose for a photo shoot on her 21st birthday recently, Yovonn’s heart rests with cars and drag racing.
According to her friends, “she is unique and sports interests that are different. But she also enjoys what most youngsters do – going out with friends and listening to loud music.”
Yovonn is aware that best things in life do not come easy.
“Sometimes all it takes is positive feedback or a convincing push into things but you will never know until you try,” she said.
