Sumati Kogekar, one of the oldest persons of Indian origin in Auckland, passed away in her sleep on January 11, 2013, just a day after she and her family marked her 100th birthday.
She was the maternal grandmother of Indian Newslink contributor Anand Mokashi, who was attending to her for many years along with his wife Neha and their children Anaya and Jay.
Mrs Kogekar was the wife of renowned scientist and writer, the late Professor Narayan Vasudev Kogekar of Mithibai College, Vile Parle, Mumbai.
“She has been living in Auckland for the past ten years. She enjoyed excellent health, which is attributed to her strict vegetarian diet, regular exercise and positive outlook in life. She was always good to people,” Mr Mokashi said.
