Unitec Institute of Technology Film School has been rated among the top ten in the world by a Reelshow International Ltd survey.
The UK based organisation, dedicated to promoting quality done by film schools and academies around the world, conducts the web-based poll, to rate top ten film school as per set criteria.
Unitec was the only institute featured among the top ten in Reelshow’s fifth annual survey released recently.
Film schools and institutes in the US, Canada and India occupied the first nine slots.
Largest School
Unitec’s Department of Performing and Screen Arts is stated to be the largest school of its type in New Zealand with 395 students and 40 staff.
It offers courses and programmes of study in acting, contemporary music, costume, dance, design, directing and writing, film and television, production technology, and scenery/props.
Industry experts guide students, while visiting local and international film producers directors, actors, writers and technicians inspire and encourage them to perform better.
Head of Department Athina Tsoulis said she was proud of the achievements of the School over the years.
“Our graduates work on Hollywood blockbusters, local independent films and many Kiwi TV programmes, and have represented major dance and theatre companies. They have also made their mark as successful composers, singers, songwriters, sound engineers and have produced award-winning short films, designs, plays and choreographic work,” she said.
“Our students have hit the ground running, ready to find employment. That is why students have voted Unitec as one of the world’s top ten film schools in 2012 in the Reelshow International poll,” she added.
As reported in Indian Newsilnk, September 1, 2012 issue, Unitec students are currently working on a feature film titled, ‘Stars in her eyes,’ a joint venture between Unitec and Ample Films.
The project provides them with an opportunity to work under professionals, make valuable connections with important people in the film industry, and graduate with a feature film credit on their resume.
