Massey honours Alan Bollard

Massey University honoured former Reserve Bank of New Zealand Governor Dr Alan Bollard with an honorary doctorate at a graduation ceremony held in Palmerston North on November 30, 2012.

New Zealand Post Deputy Chairman and former Deputy Prime Minister Dr Michael Cullen introduced Dr Bollard at the Ceremony as a former Treasury Secretary, Commerce Commission Chairman and Institute of Economic Research Director.

“He retired from the post of the Governor of Reserve Bank after ten years. He will take over as the Head of the Secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, (APEC) based in Singapore in January 2013,” he said.

Massey University honoured Dr Bollard with a ‘Doctor of Commerce’ (honoris causa) title, in recognition of his outstanding service to the nation in the field of economic policy.

Dr Bollard said he was pleased and honoured to receive this Award.

Decisive action

Massey University College of Business Head Professor Ted Zorn said that Dr Bollard richly deserved the recognition.

“New Zealand’s banking system and economy has come through the Global Financial Crisis in a better shape than most of the developed world. That was due, in no small part, to Dr Bollard’s decisive actions as Governor,” he said.

“In his new role at APEC, he will no doubt continue to make a significant contribution to the sustainable economic growth of our region, and his association with Massey will be a source of pride for everyone within the College of Business,” Professor Zorn added.
