An Indian newspaper was a novelty even in 1999 but there were many failures in the print medium (the closure of ‘Auckland Star’ a few years earlier had sent a chill through the spine of the industry) which were deterrent.
Our inaugural issue was priced at $2, which was admittedly a folly.
The price tag was removed and the newspaper was ‘free to move.’
But managing a newspaper with part time staff was a challenge.
It is often said, ‘Nothing succeeds like success,’ which is true of this newspaper. The initial months of struggle were rewarded by enthusiastic market response, which encouraged innovation.
New columns were added and with constant inflow of news, Indian Newslink became a source of endearment.
As it steps into the 14th year of its publication, this newspaper will strive to be more proactive, provide increasing human interest and groundbreaking stories, achieve greater editorial strength and rekindle reader enthusiasm.
As a part of our efforts to extend the portals of this enterprise into other areas of activity that would take us closer to the community, we have launched a number of initiatives, which have become distinct brands (read related report in this Anniversary Special).
The support and patronage of advertisers, government officials, captains of industry, readers and well-wishers have helped Indian Newslink to grow from strength to strength and we rededicate ourselves to the service of our society with higher levels of professionalism.
