I am delighted to congratulate Indian Newslink on completing its thirteenth year of publication, and for providing quality news for our growing Indian community.
As a National List Member of Parliament based in Manurewa, and as a member of the Ethnic caucus committee, I have had a close working relationship with Indian Newslink and the Indian community over the past four years.
I have enjoyed attending a wide variety of Indian cultural events, and celebrating many special occasions and festivals with our Indian community.
This newspaper plays a pivotal role in reporting and publishing these events.
The diverse nature of our ethnic communities is a part of the reason why many Indians come to New Zealand, and this diversity is strongly reflected within the pages of this publication.
Indian Newslink covers news locally, nationally, and worldwide. Over the years it has become a point of reference for not only our Indian communities, but also for many other ethnic groups across Auckland.
It provides a link to the world for our immigrant Indian population, and a link to India for those who have been living in New Zealand for some time.
Diverse and vibrant
The publication provides a direct line to our diverse and vibrant Auckland community, and one that is valued by my constituents.
National and the Indian community share important values.
These include a strong focus on the value of education, the importance of hard work and personal responsibility, and the celebration of success and reward for achievement.
Building on from the work we did last term, we are spending our second term focusing on responsibly managing the Government’s finances, building a more competitive and productive economy, better public services, and rebuilding Christchurch.
Many Indians come here in hopes of a brighter future, which is exactly what National is working hard to achieve for New Zealand.
I look forward to working with Indian Newslink in the years ahead.
