One of the finest gifts of Fiji to the world of music would be in Auckland this weekend to deluge Bollywood fans with his melodious voice and friendly disposition.
Sumeet Satyam Tappoo, increasingly known to the Indian community throughout the world as a celebrity singer, will perform at the Dorothy Winstone Centre, Auckland Girls Grammar School on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 8 pm.
Soni Samaj New Zealand Inc is organising the concert in aid of the Starship Foundation and the Starship Children’s Hospital. Details of the organisation appeared in our August 1, 2012 issue.
“It would be an evening dedicated to Bollywood hits. Music lovers can expect to hear some of the hits rendered by Atif Aslam, Mohit Chauhan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Sonu Nigam, in addition to the songs of immortal singers such as Mukesh, Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi,” he said, speaking to Indian Newslink.
Jasmine Kapadia, another notable singer of the Hindi film industry and a nine-member orchestra of professionals from Bollywood will accompany him.
Sound accreditation
A disciple of Ghazal master Anup Jalota, with credits from such great singers as Suresh Wadkar, Sadhana Sargam, Hariharan and the late Jagjit Singh, Sumeet is a man with a golden voice and more importantly a man with a golden heart.
While his graduate degree in Business (Management & Marketing) and postgraduate degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Australia add to his educational qualifications, his affable manners endear him to thousands of music lovers across the continents.
Now based in Mumbai, the seat of Bollywood, he is a globetrotter, performing at concerts, music festivals and other special occasions. He released his first album at the tender age of eleven.
Global fans
With more than 450 concerts to his credit (performed in Australia, Canada, Fiji, India, Mauritius, New Zealand, South Africa, UK and the US), he is a star by his own right.
His debut Pop album ‘Meri Deewangi’ was in India’s charts for almost 40 weeks, peaking at second position in the Times of India best-selling album list in 2010.
The album featured eight romantic ‘ballads’ composed by music director Deepak Pandit. UK based artist Priest J (aka Suj Joshi), assisted him to create a Dance track for the title track of the album.
Sumeet has just recorded a song with Sunidhi Chauhan composed by Bhavdeep for a Bollywood film.
Born in Fiji, Sumeet had a passion for music during his formative years and became a stage performer at the tender age of eight. He eulogised Jalota as his Guru, and the association helped him to become a professional singer.
“I request Aucklanders to support the efforts of the Soni Samaj of New Zealand in arranging the concert in aid of the Starship Foundation. This is a great cause,” he said.
