It’s a full house at our Seventh Sports and Recreation Awards

More than 600 men and women will gather to applaud winners in various categories of Sports and Recreation at the Seventh Annual Indian Newslink Sports, Community, Arts and Culture Awards on Monday, August 2, 2021 at Mahatma Gandhi Centre.

The event will commence at 5.30 pm with networking with a cash bar for drinks and the main proceedings will begin at 6 p.m. Car Park at the Centre (located at 145 New North Road, Eden Terrace, Auckland City) is free but limited. Guests are therefore requested to arrive early.

Elite Sports Awards

Among the highlights of the evening will be the honour bestowed on five Sports achievers of yesteryears, chosen by the New Zealand Indian Central Association under the Elite Sports Awards Programme. They will be followed by sportspersons currently making their mark in various fields including Cricket, Soccer, Boxing, Badminton and other activities.

Indian Newslink will honour five persons under its Special Commemoration Awards Category, dedicating to the memory of Raman (Ray) Ranchhod, Wenceslaus Anthony, Dr Robert Latif Khan (Senior) and Indian Newslink Founder-Publisher Ravin Lal. In instituting the Awards in their name, we remember their pioneering efforts in the communities in which they served and bow to their inspirational spirit and enterprise.

For the first time since its launch, our Awards Programme now includes people of South Asian origin including people from India, Fiji, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Associations and charitable trusts representing Indian, Fiji-Indian and Pakistani communities are also featured among our Sponsors List.

Our Guests of Honour

Deputy Prime Minister and Sport and Recreation Minister Grant Robertson, Transport, Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Michael Wood, Auckland Mayor Phil Goff, ACT Party Leader and Deputy Leader David Seymour and Brooke van Velden, Labour MPs Dr Anae Neru Leavasa and Helen White, National MPs Mark Mitchell, Scott Simpson, Simon O’Connor and Simeon Brown will be among our Chief Guests and Guests of Honour.

Chairmen, Chief Executives and top officials of several major companies including our Sponsors will be present along with community leaders and volunteers.

The entertainment segment will feature Classical dances of South, North and North-Eastern India, Sri Lanka, as well as contemporary film music and dance.
