Singapore Airlines has appointed Edwin Chiang as General Manager New Zealand. He was most recently General Manager of the airline’s Egypt and North Africa office, based in Cairo.
Edwin began his career with Singapore Airlines in July 2004 as Passenger Service Manager in Singapore. His extensive sales experiences led to his appointment as Regional Marketing Manager for West Asia and Africa in November 2007.
In July 2008, Edwin was appointed as Manager of Punjab, India, then in February 2009 he was appointed as Manager of Andhra Pradesh, India.
In July 2009, he was appointed as Manager for Western Japan before being appointed General Manager of Egypt and North Africa in April 2011.
He replaces James Lim, who is leaving to pursue private business interests.
“New Zealand is an important market for Singapore Airlines. We now operate 19 flights each week out of New Zealand, 12 from Auckland and seven from Christchurch,” Mr Chiang said.
“Thanks to the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Closer Economic Partnership between New Zealand and Singapore, trade between our two countries is growing steadily,” he added.
“Generally, the Asian economies are thriving compared with many others and this growth path is expected to continue. Singapore Airlines is well positioned to provide truly premium travel experiences between New Zealand and the rest of the world through its hub in Singapore. For business travellers especially we offer exceptional value because of our convenient direct connections to so many European and Asian destinations, including the fast-growing markets of China and India, and our full inclusive service.”
“Personally, this appointment is exciting because New Zealand has been a very meaningful country for my wife and me since we were here for our honeymoon seven years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are eagerly looking forward to getting to know New Zealand better,” Mr Chiang said.
Singapore Airlines is the Sponsor of the ‘Business Excellence in Innovation’ Category of the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards 2012.
