If you were to see a young and beautiful girl under the boot of a car or a boat, do not assume that she is in distress. With the all gears of a mechanic, she would be actually repairing the erring machine.
Learning ‘how to fix things’ and gaining knowledge is a passion in Jannine Bhawan, our Model of the Fortnight.
“I believe in being self-sufficient and I do not hesitate to learn new things. My hobbies and interests are varied, including horse-riding and cooking,” she said.
For all her ‘toughness,’ Jannine is keen to qualify in the gentle and caring profession of nursing, having earned a scholarship from the Counties Manukau District Health Board to pursue a graduate degree course in the subject.
Born in Fiji, she migrated to New Zealand just as she stepped on to her teens, and over the past six years, Jannine has made a mark in Auckland’s social and community welfare scene. An active member of the ‘Right Track Programme,’ a proactive project for driver education and training, she has been working with the New Zealand Police, the New Zealand Fire Service and St John’s to promote road safety and prevent drink-driving.
Like many other girls of Indian origin, Jannine is also interested in Bollywood, Show Business and dancing. She was the Frist Runner-Up at the Miss Teen India NZ contest (2010) and a participant at the Miss Indianz Beauty Pageant held in April 2012.
She is also a makeup artist, which is today her part-time business.
“If you do not try, then you do not know. ‘Life is too short and hence we need to live it long,’ is the motto in my life,” she said.
