People from the South Indian state of Kerala are justifiably proud of their high level of literacy, simplicity and amiability. The beauty of the land, often called ‘God’s Own Country,’ is often reflected in the beauty of the people.
Among them is Ashmita Menon, Our Model of the Fortnight.
Her name denotes strength and sternness of a rock but Ashmita insists that it evokes confidence and dignity, not egoism.
A student pursuing a graduate course in Physiotherapy, she is keen to help people in need, true to the trait of an Aquarian.
But she has proclivities towards the South Indian film industry.
“If offered a chance, I will grab it in a heartbeat,” she said.
Ashmita also evinces interest in Classical music, in which she has had training for the past 13 years.
However, her recent achievements were at the Miss Indianz contest held on April 21 in Auckland, at which she was the Second-Runner Up, in addition to winning the Miss Friendship Title (with Sanjali Nagpal) and the Miss Personality category
(Indian Newslink, May 1, 2012 issue).
“The Competition provided a platform for young and independent Indo-Kiwi women to portray their talent, knowledge and their rich cultural background. It was a childhood dream that became a reality,” she said.
Ashmita believes that the definition of beauty transcends cultures.
“Beauty is not just shape or colour but the ability of people to be proud of who they are and how they carry themselves with grace,” she said.
