Telugu Badminton Club honours community in Canterbury

Several players and members of the community were honoured at an event organised by the Telugu Badminton Club of Canterbury (TBCC) on Sunday, April 11, 2011.

The event, called, Whanaungatanga, was aimed at bringing together its diverse community of players with Housing Minister Dr Megan Woods as the Chief Guest.

Paying tributes to all the achievers, she described the TBCC as the ‘United Nations of Badminton,’ saying that such organisations represented the diversity and unity which distinguishes New Zealand as a country.

Awards were presented to Pavan Krithinti and Anil Kumar, who displayed exceptional performance outside of TBCC events.

Dr Woods also presented Awards to Shankar Kumar and Ashil Joy who were Runners-Up at the Men’s Double at the St Paddy’s Tournament held in March 2021.

Players acknowledged

Players Saranya Duraisamy and Taj Wasim also received prizes for winning the Mixed Doubles in the same tournament. Other recipients were Winners of Men’s Double Championship at the Summer League Raam Kumar Manickavasagam and Marlon Silva, the winning group of Summer League, which included 14 players who performed to their full potential.  

 

Since its inception, the Club has included players from various ethnic backgrounds including Kiwi, Indian, Chinese, Malaysian, Sri Lankan, Pakistani, Filipino and Nepali.

This year’s event was run by junior players.

Pranavi Peddisetti was the Master of Ceremonies, assisted by players Keerthana Kaatla, Abhinay Kaatla, Tanvi Nayudu , Raveena Gopinath, Shreya Maria, Shaffina Maria, Rosemary Palma and Matthew Cornelius.
