The time-honoured practice of performing ‘Yagna,’ invoking the blessings of the Almighty will be held in Auckland on November 5 and 6, 2011.
The two-day event, incorporating ‘Kalash’ (or ‘Kalasa’) will be held at 53 Skipton Road, Mangere, South Auckland, beginning at 630 pm on Saturday with a special prayer for Lord Ganesha, the Remover of all obstacles.
Yagnas, which are essentially community prayers led by Vedic pundits and scholars, have been in practice for thousands of years. Emperors and Kings would petition their Gurus and sages to conduct such Yagnas to ensure good monsoons for better harvest, peace and harmony in the society and good health for people.
Shivachariyar Sada Shiva, a prominent priest based in Vancouver, Canada will perform ‘108 Kalash Yagya’ or invoking the Blessings of God for world peace and harmony.
Organising Committee member Rohit Kumar said the Yagna will be first of its type to be held in New Zealand.
“The programme will include Ganapathi Pooja and Kalash Sthapana on the first day, while the second day will witness Suprapatham, Yagya, Prayers, Purnahuti and Shanthi Paath.
“The 108 Kalash were made for us specially in India. Each Kalash will contain the Holy Water that can be used at all religious ceremonies,” he said.
