Dunedin Tamil Society Diwali on November 16

Tamilians in the South Island city of Dunedin will get together to celebrate the Festival of Lights next fortnight.

Organised by the Dunedin Tamil Society, the event will be held on November 16, 2019, at the University of Otago Union Hall, located at 640 Cumberland Street in North Dunedin.

Tickets for the event, including entertainment and dinner, are now available.

The event will commence at 5 pm.

Priced at $10 (Individual) and $25 for Family for Members of the Society and at $15 (Individual) and $40 (Family) for Non-Members, they can be obtained online

Society President Dr Nivethanan Kamalendran said that as well as the entertainments items that are usually included, this year’s Diwali will also a well-known Tamil DJ from Wellington.

According to the booking website, the DJ will host ‘Kolaveri Night’ with Tamil hits at the Starters Bar located 157 Frederick Street from 930 pm and that entry would be $10 per person.

“Dunedin Tamil Society preserves and promotes the rich heritage of the Tamil-speaking people and seeks to foster understanding, friendship, goodwill and appreciation between Tamil- speaking people and various cross-sections of the people of Dunedin Region,” Dr Nivethanan said.
