Tamil Association of New Zealand Inc (TANZI) has announced that its Deepavali celebrations will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019.
Called, ‘Deepaoli Thirunaal’ (Festival of Lights), the event will be held at the Panmure Community Centre, located at 7/13 Pilkington Road, Panmure.
Association President Sowndra Rajan Palanisamy said that proceeds of the Programme will be used to support the community and the environment.
About TANZI
“TANZI is a group of people who have come together with an objective to help people from all over the world and in particular from Tamilnadu to settle down smoothly in New Zealand. Until last year, we were conducting activities informally through a WhatsApp group called, ‘Jallikattu’ (Bull Fight) with nearly 500 members,” he said.
Mr Palanisamy said that the Group has been supporting many new migrants to find jobs, homes to stay, open bank accounts and seek legal advice.
“Formation of TANZI has enabled us to help people as a registered organisation. Among our activities thus far this year are Pongal Vizha (January), Employ Ability Workshops (May and July). Last year, we organised a fundraiser and collected about $13,500 towards a Tamil Chair at the Harvard University in the United States of America,” he said.
