A celebrity visitor to entertain you

When Kishore Kumar, the veteran singer of the Hindi film industry passed away following a heart attack in October 1987, producers, directors, composers and actors were worried that the void would never be filled.

They need not have worried. A relatively unknown singer at the time began making waves with a voice endowed like Kishore.

Kumar Sanu was destined to taken on the mantle of responsibility to ensure not only the success of films but also the continuity of a legacy that had become a part of the film industry.

Far from being the ‘echo of Kishore,’ he carried the last name of the late singer as his first and established a reputation for singing any song to any situation.

He created musical history by recording 28 songs on a single day.

The sensation will resound the corridors of the Telstra Clear Pacific Events Centre in Manukau, Auckland on November 19 and the Bharat Bhavan Indian Culture Centre in Wellington on November 20, 2011.

Bali Braham Bhatt, a popular host based in UK will be the Master of Ceremonies, while DJs Gabroo and Jolly are managing the event.

Film Producer Shyam Upadhyay (who had produced the highly acclaimed short English film Waiting for You) is the producer and presenter of the Programme under his ‘Films Gallery’ banner.

Established in 2003, the Mumbai based creative company is involved in production of feature films, documentaries, commercials and event management.

Mr Upadhyay said organising Kumar Sanu concerts in New Zealand was both a challenge and an opportunity and that he was enjoying both.

“Kumar Sanu is one of the most prolific singers ever to work in the Indian film industry. This is a testament not only to his polished technique but also to his unparalleled ability to quickly and effortlessly master unfamiliar material in the studio,” he said.

A recipient of India’s Padma Sri Title and five consecutive Filmfare Awards (another record), Sanu has more than 17,000 songs to his credit.

In a career spanning two decades, he has sung for almost all popular composers of the Hindi film industry including A R Rahman, Anand-Milind, Anu Malik, Dilip Sen-Samir Sen, Ismail Darbar, Jatin-Lalit, Kalyanji Anandji, Nadeem-Shravan and Rahul Dev Burman.

Among his major hits are Tuje Dekha To Ye Jana Sanam (‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’), Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga, Rum Jhum Rum Jhum (‘1942 a Love story), Ye Kali Kali Aankhen (‘Baazigar’), Kaho Na Pyar Hai (‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai) and Tu Meri Zindagi Hai (‘Aashiqi’).
