The Auckland Indian Association will conduct workshops to help people lead healthy and active lives by eating healthy food, exercising regularly and giving up unhealthy habits like smoking.
Public Relations Officer Dhiru Patel said the workshops will cover a number of heath issues including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, nutrition and exercises.
“Our Workshop on Osteoporosis will be held on July 17 at 11 am at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre, located in the Auckland Indian Association complex on 145 New North Road, Eden Terrace. Purvi Chhichhia of ProCare Health Limited will conduct the workshop, “ Mr Patel said.
He said the Association conducts ‘Pilates,’ a body conditioning routine that helps to build flexibility, strength and endurance.
“This form of exercise is based on six principles including concentration, centre, flow, precision and breathing. This method teaches you to take control of your body,” he said.
Pilate classes are held on Mondays from 630 pm to 715 pm. Charges per session are $2 for members and $5 for non-members.
‘Bollyrobix’ is an exercise method developed to Bollywood music, suitable for men and women of all ages. Classes are held (free for members and $2 for non-members) on Saturdays from 730 am to 830 am.
Mr Patel said the ‘Walking Group’ enables participants to walk with their friends at their pace for one or two hours, depending on individual needs and health. The Group meets on Thursdays and Sundays at 8 am and decides on the route based on a number of factors.
