The contribution of Radio Tarana to the adjustment and progress of the Indian community in Auckland has been immense over the past 16 years.
The Radio station has grown with each passing year and is now a major player in New Zealand’s ethnic media.
This growth and development has been the result of the dedication and hard work of a talented and committed group of broadcasters.
It is also the result of the vision, tenacity, ambition and competence of its Managing Director Robert Khan.
He is a tireless advocate of ethnic interests in many spheres, with an eye for the diverse interests and entertainment needs of the Indian community.
Radio Tarana has developed a large and influential business clientele over the past 16 years and has been instrumental in enhancing their success by bringing their interests into the living room of Auckland’s Indian communities.
This is also extended to supporting the many events that are now a regular and important part of the Indian entertainment calendar.
Deep Foresight
The Company has sponsored many events and shows, with its foresight serving the dual purpose of establishing itself as the preeminent vehicle for news and views for the Indian community as well as enhancing the interests of its target communities.
It has continued to develop the quality and depth of its broadcasts. It is an important channel for good quality reporting on political matters. It enables political views from all sides to be aired and is well on the road to being one of the major avenues for political debate amongst members of the Indian community and political activists.
It is significant that on its 16th anniversary, Radio Tarana has begun broadcasting in Wellington. This planned expansion is a hallmark of successful businesses and an acknowledgement of the sizable Indian interest in Wellington.
I have always enjoyed my association with Radio Tarana, holding various public offices. Its staff have always been courteous and inclusive. They obviously enjoy their association with Radio Tarana and certainly have fun doing their work.
A bright future
The success of the Radio Station over the past 16 years is also a credit to them and I particularly want to acknowledge their professionalism and sense of fun.
Radio Tarana will always be an important and critical part of the New Zealand media. Radio has become a major element in the settlement and advancement of the Indian community. This medium is capable of even greater achievements in the years to come. I have no doubt that with its excellent leadership and dedicated team, supplemented by a discerning public, Radio Tarana will continue to be the success story that it has become.
I congratulate Radio Tarana for achieving this important milestone and express my thanks to the Indian community for the excellent and vital role they play in our interests.
